People collect some interesting things: stamps, seashells, movie ticket stubs. Some folks in the electrical industry collect Ideal Industries' die-cast vehicles. This year marks the 11th that the manufacturer of tools, wire connectors and other electrical supplies rolled out a die-cast collectible.

“We get several calls throughout the year from people inquiring if we have any of the older models still available,” said Tim Beed, product manager for Ideal Industries' wire termination unit.

This year, Ideal Industries, Sycamore, Ill., released 18,000 die-cast replicas of a Dodge Ram 3500 pick-up truck with a “Haulin' Amps” job trailer. The theme of the 2007 collectible, “Haulin' Amps” pays tribute to the long hours and hard work put in by America's electricians.

Valued at about $50 each, the die-cast replicas are available with the purchase of Ideal and Buchanan Wire Connectors. Ideal's distributor partners participating in the promotion administer the collectibles as they deem best fits their marketing needs. Some simply require a minimum purchase; others do weekly drawings after customers make purchase requirements.

As part of the “Haulin' Amps” promotion, Ideal is also giving away five grand-prize trips for two to the Daytona 500, the crown jewel of the NASCAR racing season, to be run Feb. 18, 2007, at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona, Fla.
