Earn credit toward certified lighting consultant (CLC) certification

By successfully completing “Selling Lighting Controls — Building the Category,” a three-day course taught at Lutron facilities, industry salespeople can earn three credit hours toward certified lighting consultant (CLC) certification.

Additionally, electrical distributors' employees can earn one-hour toward CLC certification by completing the recently introduced Knowledge Builders “Basic Wallbox Dimming” course. Either self-taught or delivered by an instructor, the course focuses on dimming basics, merchandising, product selection and ordering. Additional courses focused on whole-room and whole-home lighting-control systems are planned for future release.

Lutron Electronics Co. Inc., Coopersburg, Pa., manufactures lighting-control systems and shading solutions for residential and commercial applications. For more information on available courses, contact your local Lutron representative or visit the company's Web site at www.lutron.com.

Safety video includes latest arc-flash NFPA 70E standards

Fluke Corp.'s “Electrical Measurement Safety” video has been revised to incorporate the most recent guidelines from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E standard for electrical safety in the workplace, which specifically addresses arc-flash hazards. Materials also incorporate safety information from American National Standards Institute (ANSI), International Electrotechnical Conference (IEC) and other safety regulators.

Electrical safety compliance training violations are among the most frequently cited standards published by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA regulations include a six-point plan to minimize potential arc-flash danger for personnel that addresses issues such as requirements for safety programs, training and use of appropriate tools for safe working conditions.

Available free of charge on CD (one copy per user) through the Fluke Web site at www.fluke.com/safety, the video includes a 25-minute dramatization of the hazards of electrical measurement and explains the precautions that help defend against the arc flash, an interview with an arc-flash survivor, tips for conducting safety audits on test tools and equipment and safety application notes designed to serve as the basis of a safety meeting discussion. Topics include “10 Dumb Things Smart People Do When Testing Electricity” and “ABCs of Electrical Measurement Safety.”

Fluke Corp., Everett, Wash., is a leading manufacturer of compact, professional electronic test tools.
