When Megger Limited, Dallas, was approached by the North American Wind Research and Training Center at Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari, N.M., about a program to promote wind energy and education, the test-equipment company jumped at the chance.

Megger not only arranged for David Danner, its sales manager for U.S. distribution, to assist in training sessions, but also provided the college with a range of instruments for use by the students. The instruments include insulation, ground and circuit-breaker testers, as well as a special blade repair test lead kit for checking the condition of the lightning protection provisions in the blades of wind turbines.

“Providing support for education is really important for us,” said David Danner. “We want to encourage students to enter the electrical industry, which offers excellent opportunities particularly in the sustainable energy sectors, such as wind power. We also want to ensure that students receive practical hands-on training, and the best way to ensure that is to make sure that they have access to the same instruments they will be using after they complete their courses.”

Megger is also working with many other community colleges throughout the United States, and through its own training subsidiary — The AVO Institute — to help provide professionals within the electrical industry with skills that cover every facet of electrical testing.

“We are truly delighted with the support we've received from Megger. The instruments are a great addition to the College,” said Tracey Roscoe, director of public relations at Mesalands Community College. “We are really pleased that Megger is so enthusiastic and committed about providing our students with high quality test equipment.”
