Global Winds Harvest Inc. and UPC Wind Partners LLC, two experienced wind farm developers, will co-develop a $500 million wind farm project in Dickey County, N.D., and McPherson County, S.D. The two companies plan to install 480 MW of state-of-the-art wind turbines, or enough electricity to power roughly 110,000 homes.

The partnership is the latest phase of a project that started in 1999 when Global Winds investigated the potential of wind-farm development in the Dakotas. The Department of Energy rates North Dakota as having the highest wind resource in the United States.
