Schneider Electric once again sponsored the Solar Decathlon Europe competition, held in Madrid last month. Schneider Electric sponsored more than half of the homes participating in this year's competition and built the micro grid, including EVlink charging stations, which enables a reliable electrical connection between the Solar Village (“Villa Solar”) and the utility service for the duration of the event. Through this sponsorship, Schneider Electric showcases in real conditions the capabilities of demand-response technology and smart energy management systems. Its involvement takes various forms, ranging from technical support and training to solutions integration to production donations. A partner of this initiative since 2007 through at least 2013 in China and in the United States, Schneider Electric helps promote innovative, efficient solutions to curb energy waste, promote clean energies and encourage environmentally responsible energy use. Created in 2002 by the U.S Department of Energy (DOE), the Solar Decathlon challenges students from worldwide universities on two-year long projects where they design, build and operate energy-efficient solar-powered houses. The houses are built over a 10-day period in a solar village open to the public and compete in 10 contests.
