Lunera Lighting Brings New Light to World Class Hotel

The Hilton Minneapolis wanted an easily installed lighting solution that would improve guest experience while lowering energy usage and reducing maintenance costs. A custom guest corridor fixture had already been designed for use with a compact fluorescent lamp (CFL), but the quality of light was not what the Hilton Minneapolis had hoped for, so they sought another alternative. They chose the Helen Lamp by Lunera Lighting, Santa Clara, Calif., an LED plug-and-play replacement  for 2-pin and 4-pin compact fluorescents.

"Every day, we challenge ourselves to push the envelope of guest experience. The clean, bright, quality light from the Helen Lamp met that challenge and has been a big hit with our guests and employees," said Dennis Cavner, lead engineer, Hilton Minneapolis.

In addition to the flush-mount drum corridor fixtures, the Helen Lamp also replaced CFLs in the property's 850 guest room entry foyers. This allowed the improved light quality to flow from the corridors into the guest rooms with an instant-on light experience not found in CFLs. In total, the Helen Lamp replaced 2,350 CFLs, immediately lowering the hotel's lighting energy bills by more than 50 percent, according to a Lunera case study. With a long 50,000-hour lamp life, five times that of a CFL, routine maintenance costs were virtually eliminated as well, the company said. The 13W LED lamps produce 900 delivered lumens at a CRI of 84, correlated color temperatures (CCT) of 2,700K-4,000K
