Electrical distributors, contractors and home-automation system installers intent on capturing a piece of the exploding home automation industry should take a look at the APTitude training and sales-support program from Leviton Manufacturing Co., Inc. Little Neck, N.Y. The program, designed for Decora Home Controls (DHC), is a comprehensive product and applications training guide that shows how contractors can easily and cost-effectively make home automation available to homeowners. The program, which won the Home Automation Association's Mark of Excellence, 1999 Manufacturer Advertising and Promotion award, provides information on every product in the DHC offering, along with product features, benefits and installation diagrams. It also helps distributors presell DHC products by providing a complete range of marketing support materials.

The program includes two videotapes, a training presentation on CD-ROM, a workbook and project layout survey, technical applications manual, product brochures and mailers that can be imprinted with a distributor's address. The kit also includes a signal analyzer for use on the job site to provide quick and easy verification of proper operation of DHC products. The device, available at no charge to purchasers of the APTitude program, enables DHC installers to identify DHC code transmissions, measure signal strength, test for noise on the line and troubleshoot problems.
