Electrical Expo '99 highlights deregulation Gail Johnson Apr 1, 1999 12:00 PM To promote its goal of 10,000 attendees at this year's Electrical Expo '99, the St. Louis Electrical Board printed up bushels of $10,000 bills that could be redeemed for prizes during the show. While the show, held March 2 at the Cervantes Convention Center in St. Louis, Mo., didn't quite hit the lofty goal it aimed for, it built on its reputation as one of the strongest regional electrical shows in the country with another solid attendance. Highlights of the show included the National Electrical Week Luncheon, which featured an update on utility deregulation by Clark Gellings, vice president, client relations, Electrical Power Research Institute (EPRI), Palo Alto, Calif. Gellings says 17 states now have some form of utility deregulation, and that all companies in the electrical industry will have to get used to a new market where electricity can be sold by anyone to anyone.
