EQUITY ANNUAL MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

The annual meeting of the Equity Electrical Associates in Houston, April 9-11, capped a year in which the buying/marketing group's membership grew to 174 companies with 268 locations, and vendor participation increased by 33%. Executive Director Bob Snyder says Equity's membership will continue to grow, and that future plans include courting both lamp and automation specialists as members, as well as full-line electrical distributors.

Equity president Frank Millard is shown in photos presenting the prestigious James J. Hennessy Award of Excellence to Bill Squires, SMC Electric Supply, Springfield, Mo. (left photo), and the James J. Hennessy Associated Supplier Award to Liz O'Grady and Glenn Hollister of Ideal Industries, Inc., Sycamore, Ill. Ideal also took home awards for excellence in merchandising, administration, delivery and marketing. Circle of Excellence Awards went to Electrical Distributors of Texas, Inc., Aransas Pass, Texas; Electric Maintenance & Engineering Works, Inc., Woonsocket, R.I.; Hunt Co., Inc., Waukesha, Wis.; McIlwain Electric Supply Co., Waynesboro, Miss.; Natchez Electric Supply Co., Inc., Natchez, Miss.; and Shamrock Electric Supply Co., Grenada, Miss. On Equity's Honor Roll for Supplier Support were Almeida Electrical, Inc., Fall River, Mass.; Armstrong Electrical Supply, Inc., Abilene, Texas; B&S Electric Supply Co., Inc., Atlanta, Ga.; Edward Joy Lighting & Electric Supply, Syracuse, N.Y.; and Maverick Electric Supply, Inc., Dallas, Texas.

Other manufacturers that received awards included Thomas & Betts Corp., Memphis, Tenn., which took home multiple plaques with awards for excellence in administration, delivery and products; Hubbell, Inc., Orange, Conn., which won for excellence in administration and delivery; and Panduit Corp., Tinley Park, Ill., which was recognized for excellence in delivery and products.

Other winning manufacturers were Arlington Industries, Inc., Scranton, Pa.; Bridgeport Fittings, Inc., Stratford, Conn.; Intermatic, Inc., Spring Grove, Ill.; Littelfuse, Inc., Des Plaines, Ill.; NSI Industries, Inc., Charlotte, N.C.; and Osram/Sylvania, Inc., Danvers, Mass.
