FLUKE TO RECALL 40,000 VOLTAGE TESTERS

Sep 1, 2002 12:00 PM

Fluke Corp., Everett, Wash., will recall about 40,000 digital multimeters because of possible shock, electrocution and thermal burns, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said. The CPSC said the equipment can take up to 18 seconds to display AC voltages over 500 volts, which can expose the user to the risks. The agency has received four reports of problems from Canada and Australia but no injuries. About 17,200 of these multimeters were sold in the United States between January and October 2001, for between $170 and $215, according to the agency. The instruments have “Fluke” and “175,” “177” or “179” written on the front and a serial number below 79000000. Consumers should stop using it immediately and call Fluke at (800) 260-4819 for information on free repairs.
