Health care codes on the road

Getting real-world knowledge of electrical-code requirements to health-care facilities managers and engineers is the objective of a series of conferences sponsored by Leviton Manufacturing Co., Inc., Little Neck, N.Y. The series, modeled after a Leviton-sponsored Health Care Technical Conference held in the metro New York area in late 1998, is to be presented throughout the country during 1999.

The conferences will focus on National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) health care standards. Topics will include the most recent changes and highlights of NFPA Standards: NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities; NFPA 110, Emergency Power Systems; and NFPA 70, Article 517 on Health Care Facilities. Also included will be a review of the JCAHO Utilities Management Standard and what is required for compliance.

The keynote speaker will be Douglas Erickson, a renowned authority on electrical systems and standards with more than 20 years' experience in health care engineering. He has been responsible for bringing the hospital industry's perspective to the organizations that enforce codes and standards.

For a list of cities and dates for the 1999 conferences, call (800) 323-8920 or visit Leviton's Web site at www.leviton.com.
