Hubbell Inc., Orange, Conn., acquired the Kurt Versen Co. for approximately $100 million in cash.

Located in Westwood, N.J., Kurt Versen manufactures specification-grade lighting fixtures for a full range of office, commercial, retail, government, entertainment, hospitality and institution applications.

Kurt Versen's lighting fixtures are incorporated into hundreds of projects and numerous high-profile installations, including the United Nations General Assembly, the Los Angeles International Airport and the U.S. Supreme Court.

The acquisition enhances Hubbell Lighting's package of 16 lighting brands, including such brands as Kim Lighting, Architectural Area Lighting, Alera Lighting and Sportsliter Solutions. The addition of Kurt Versen greatly strengthens Hubbell Lighting's position in the key spec-grade downlighting market segment, Hubbell said.

“Kurt Versen is very complementary to Hubbell Lighting,” said Timothy Powers, president and CEO of Hubbell. “It's the preferred brand in specification-grade downlighting with significant brand awareness and a preference built over the company's 70-year history.”

He said the acquisition is a major addition to Hubbell's current offering of Prescolite and Progress brands, which extends the company's product breadth and depth through all segments of the non-residential and residential lighting markets.
