New Mexico's largest homeless shelter, Joy Junction, has recognized Summit Electric Supply as a “Community Hero” for donating the Lifeline of Hope food service vehicle. Joy Junction founder and CEO Jeremy Reynalds presented the Community Hero award to Victor R. Jury, Jr., president and CEO of Summit Electric Supply, on Oct. 8 at the Albuquerque Marriott Pyramid North Hotel.

The nonprofit recognizes donors “that just went the extra mile to do something to increase our ability to serve,” said Rev. Joseph Krall. “Through its donation of the Lifeline of Hope, Summit is responsible for us being able to serve twice as many meals as we could before because of our ability now to go out into the community and find people who do not have shelter.”

Last fall, Jury read about the homeless shelter's vision to take food to the hungry who could not get to the shelter, or for whom there was no room. At the time, Joy Junction was turning away as many as 25 people each night. Jury found a catering truck on eBay in Florida, bought it, and gave shelter founder Jeremy Reynalds an airline ticket to pick the truck up. Summit also put decals on the truck with its moniker “Lifeline of Hope.”
