Gail Johnson

Jul 1, 1999 12:00 PM

Specially-designed lamp will illuminate the famous New Year's Eve Ball in Times Square for the next four years, beginning with the December 31, 1999 celebration. Somerset, N.J.-based Philips Lighting Co. developed the special Halogen bulb that will debut in the exquisite Waterford Crystal ball. The ball will feature 180 facetted "Halogena" lamps. The facets of the Halogena allow for increased reflection off various surfaces making it particularly well-suited for illuminating crystal. The Halogena bulbis designed for any application where the sparkle, dazzle and brilliance from this multi-facetted source are desirable and glare is not an issue. The Halogena lamp line will be available to contractors and consumers through distributors and home centers this fall.
