Lights! Cameras!--and Sales! Gail Johnson Aug 1, 1999 12:00 PM Lutron Electronics, Coopersburg, Pa., raised the curtain on its latest move to grow sales and promote awareness of the power of lighting controls with its Ultimate Home Theater Experience exhibit at Epcot Center in the Walt Disney World Resort, Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The 2,700-sq-ft display brings together the products of more than 20 lighting companies, including Halo track lighting, Iris architectural downlighting, Lumiere step lighting, and fiber-optic lighting from Cooper Lighting, Elk Grove Village, Ill. Among the Lutron products showcased at the exhibit are the microprocessor-based Spacer remote-control dimmer; the RadioRA whole-house, wireless lighting control system; Claro designer wallplates that attach with no visible screws; and the Grafik Eye controller that can create lighting effects by changing light levels or by using lights in varying combinations. The controller can also work with a projection screen, audio-video equipment, climate control and security system for an integrated 'total control' system. Visitors to two 15-seat residential rooms can view possibilities for their own home theaters. According to Rick Schuett, Lutron's vice president for new business development, a national survey by the firm indicates that home theaters topped greenhouses and home fitness centers as the most popular home-improvement project, creating the $10.64 billion home-theater market that continues to grow. At the tour end, visitors are invited to visit www.ultimatehometheater.com where they can learn more about the products, the terminology and identify local dealers and installers for the systems on display. The alliance of industry manufacturers brought together for the exhibit will be renewed each year over the course of Lutron's three-year lease at Epcot's Innoventions building.
