Lutron Electronics Co., Inc., Coopersburg, Pa., said its occupancy/vacancy sensors, switches and fixtures were recently installed in Allentown, Pa.'s city hall and public safety buildings as part of a major retrofit by the city's public works department. Allentown expects to reduce electrical demand for these buildings by 40 percent.

The project was funded by a $1 million federal grant to reduce energy consumption and improve energy-efficiency. The funding comes from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG). The EECBG program was funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to assist cities, counties and states to develop and manage energy-efficiency and conservation projects that will reduce fossil fuel emissions, reduce the total energy use of the municipality, improve energy efficiency in transportation, building and other sectors and create and retain jobs.
