$1 MILLION REWARD FOR DRIVING FAST Apr 1, 2003 12:00 PM Driving fast has its rewards. Dewalt is offering a chance to win $1 million and a new Chevy Silverado pickup truck in its “Million Dollar Challenge” cordless screw-driving contest. The challenge is to sink five drywall screws flush into a wooden board as fast as you can using a Dewalt cordless drill. From March through August, the company is staging more than 500 local qualifying contests across 100 cities throughout the United States and Canada. Specially outfitted Dewalt Million Dollar Challenge vehicles will visit select power tool retailers, home centers, construction sites and NASCAR races where people can test their prowess driving screws with a cordless drill. The fastest local winners earn prizes and move on to one of 14 regional events. From there, the top 14 contestants advance to the final tournament in November at the Phoenix International Raceway, where they'll go head-to-head to see who can become the country's fastest screwdriver. This is the second year for the event, which now includes Canada. Last year more than 50,000 people entered the contest. Jon Smith, a contractor from Delaware, Ohio, became the first million-dollar grand prize winner when he sank five screws in 6.77 seconds during the 2002 finals.
