Osram Sylvania Products, Inc., Danvers, Mass., has made its 1998 Lightpoint Course Catalog available on-line through its Internet site at www.sylvania.com in the Lightpoint section. Five courses (Lighting Essentials, Lighting Design & Applications, The Energy Focus, Residential Lighting and Retail Lighting) are offered, each with a particular focus that addresses the needs of different lighting professionals, such as specifiers, energy managers and distributors. Complete course descriptions, plus dates and fees are available on-line, as is a sign-up form to receive more information or to confirm eligibility to attend a particular class.

Osram Sylvania was recently honored when the Smithsonian Institution announced Osram Sylvania's electronic product catalog would be included in the institution's Permanent Research Collection on Information Technology Innovation. Nominated by Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, Osram Sylvania's work is part of a collection that includes more than 442 of the year's most innovative technology applications from 40 states and 19 countries.

The company also announced an interactive CD-ROM tutorial on lighting and ballast basics. Entitled "An Introduction to Lighting," the program is broken down into six major sections: lighting basics; incandescent and halogen sources; fluorescent and compact fluorescent sources; high-intensity discharge sources; electronic control systems; and a final exam.
