Products Dec 1, 2004 12:00 PM Programming platform expanded to include smaller micro PLCs Version 2.0 of Telemecanique Unity Pro, the versatile IEC 61131-2 PLC programming, debugging and operating software for Modicon programmable logic controllers, was recently released. The PLC programming platform is expanded to include smaller micro PLCs. It also includes a host of new capabilities, including smaller file sizes and hot standby, as well as user-defined function blocks and memory for easier customization of control system designs. Users will also be able to define their own Ethernet protocols, which will simplify communication with other TCP devices, including RFID tag readers. Schneider Electric Thermal transfer wire marker printer The EZL-100 thermal transfer wire marker printer is ideal for the professional user who needs a heavy-duty, easy-to-use printer that is both portable and rugged. Its one-touch wire-wrapping capability allows users to select the wire gauge and automatically size the label to the proper diameter. The printer has capabilities that include five different print sizes, multiple line printing and a selection of electrical symbols. Labels are made from nylon and polyester in widths ranging from ¾ inch to ¼ inch. Thomas & Betts Corp. Improved Romex cable is easier to pull, faster to strip and harder to tear In an effort to simplify residential wiring installations and reduce labor costs, Romex SIMpull, a nonmetallic Type NM-B cable, is 50 percent easier to pull through walls and floor joists as well as around corners. The cable strips more quickly and reduces burn-through when pulled across other cables that already are installed. It's also tear-resistant. Its patent-pending jacket system reduces friction, cutting the amount of force required to pull the cable through wooden joists and rafters and around corners. Southwire Co. Wiring device “plugs in” for super fast installation The PlugTail wiring device provides fast, consistent and reliable termination. Most conventional commercial wiring devices require workers to install receptacles using the standard hot, neutral and grounded pigtails sticking out of the wall box, but the PlugTail preterminates the pigtails into a UL listed connector, which allows the receptacle to be “plugged in” or terminated in a matter of seconds. Installation is more than twice as fast. Pass & Seymour/Legrand Easy-to-install raceway cover plates New raceway device cover plates are easier to install and improve the look of Wiremold 4000 and 6000 Series steel raceway systems. The 4047 Series device cover plates feature a two-gang snap-in mounting bracket with grounding points, which eliminate the need to install two separate single-gang brackets. These low-profile cover plates also have an overlap that hides uneven seams caused by cutting the raceway cover. The plates, which are available in many different configurations, are designed to replace 4046 and 4048 Series covers. The cover plates have a snap-in mounting bracket that reduces installation time by eliminating the need to install two separate mounting straps. The Wiremold Co. DIN-rail mounted DC power supplies install quickly The DR Series, a new line of DIN-rail mounted DC power supplies, is said to provide optimal performance with minimal installation time and space. Designed in a compact, slim book profile package compatible with other modules mounted in a control panel, the product is available in single and three-phase models, from 1.3A to 40A. An auto-ranging input feature provides the versatility of using one power supply to address input voltages from 90V to 265V for single-phase applications automatically with no adjustments required during installation. Other features include superior output voltage regulation of ±1 percent, local output status indication, adjustable output voltage to overcome voltage drop concerns and an auto restart feature. Acme Electric Corp. Work light adapts to task The Uni-lite's 360 degree right angle swivel means the beam of light can be pointed in any direction. For hands-free use, the light can be laid down and the head twisted to direct the light beam to the work site. The light easily attaches to a jacket, pocket or suspender. The work light is water resistant and is safety rated Class 1 Division 2 for hazardous locations. Ameripack Infrared thermometers feature pistol grips The Fluke 63, 66 and 68 infrared (IR) thermometers feature pistol grips for easy handling and a single-dot laser sighting system for accurate aiming. The IR thermometers have an intuitive user interface, sleek ergonomic design and single trigger activation for ease of use. When the trigger is depressed and held down, the laser illuminates, and temperature readings are continuously updated and displayed on the backlit LCD screen. Models 66 and 68 feature 12-point data logging and selectable MAX, MIN, DIF and AVG functions that display values instantly with a Hi/Lo alarm. Fluke Corp. Power and power quality clamp-ons are practical and affordable What was previously available only on high-end products is now affordable and practical. The Amprobe ACD-50 series power and power-quality clamp-ons offers full power-quality capability, combined with TRMS clamp-on amp, volt, and resistance meters. The meters measure AC current up to 400A and AC/DC voltage up to 600V. An easy-to-read screen displays voltage and current harmonics (THD, DC and individual up to 25th); power factors; active, reactive and apparent powers; energy; and frequency right on your clamp-on. Three models are available. The ACD-51HP measures power, power-factor and frequency; the ACD-55HPQ measures harmonics and frequency; and the ACD-56HPQ combines all of these features, measuring power, power-factor, harmonics and frequency. Each offers up to 90 hours of continuous measurement using two 1.5V AAA batteries. Amprobe Floorbox installation kit This residential floorbox kit comes complete with the base; solid brass cover; hole saw; and three mounting plates: wired, low voltage and blank. This single-gang floorbox can be positioned wherever an outlet or phone/cable line is needed, eliminating the need for extension cords in homes and home offices. Carlon Compact fluorescent available in soft white and full spectrum The patent-pending Evolution compact fluorescent is the same basic size as standard bulbs, but its life is 10 times longer. It's available in 11W, 14W, 20W and 25W; and both soft white 2,700K and 5,500K full spectrum color temperatures. Aero-Tech Light Bulb Co. Control stations line now offers selector switches The expanded factory sealed Flex-Station line now includes selector switches in configurations and styles needed most. The control stations line is a complete system of interchangeable components that can be easily and quickly assembled using standard tools in most any combination by an authorized distributor or from the factory. Devices can be ordered as two or three position, with one or two contact blocks, with a standard lockout feature, key operated with multiple choices for key removal and with optional spring return. Cooper Crouse-Hinds FO converters permit users to transmit fiber-optic data A new PSI-MOS fiber-optic converter system enables users to transmit fiber-optic data for the most popular serial communication interfaces and bus systems. The converters allow complete isolation of Interbus, Profibus, Modbus, DeviceNet, CANopen, RS-232, and other RS-485 networks by converting the electrical copper-based signals to glass or polymer fiber technology. Discrete wiring for power is no longer necessary with the optional system power supply, power terminal block, and T-foot power bus coupler that mount on a DIN rail. Phoenix Contact Inc. Software makes labeling easy and efficient The LabelMark V3 upgraded software package is actually two software packages in one: Label-Mark, designed for simple text-only labels; and LabelMark Plus, which makes it possible to create custom-designed labels that incorporate graphic images and bar codes. The program includes a complete library of electrical, datacom and safety symbols. New features for both include simplified data importing, redesigned tool bars and menus, a date/time feature for easy insertion of date and/or time fields and a “find and replace” utility for easy text search and replacement. The software supports most Windows printer drivers, is compatible with the Brady TLS2200 and TLS PC Link portable printers, and accommodates all Brady stock and custom formats. Brady Corp.
