Cam connectors supply power at Navy shoreline stations

Leviton's ECT Single Pole Cam-Type Connectors are being used by the U.S. Navy to supply dockside power at naval bases after tests showed their performance superior to competitive devices. The nonswitched (22R26) and switched (22R28) series Latching Ball Nose Panel Receptacles are now listed in the new United Facilities Guide Specification (UFGS) 16145, which applies to all electrical substations installed on new or refurbished Navy piers. The UFGS is a joint effort of Army, Navy, Coast Guard, National Guard, Marines and Air Force. Leviton Manufacturing Co.

Micro electronic ballasts can replace magnetic ballasts

The Microstar family's micro-sized technology makes it practical to use electronic ballasts in applications where magnetic ballasts are traditionally installed. The Microstar product line features micro-sized T5 and compact fluorescent lighting ballasts specially engineered for versatility and well suited for wall sconces, compact fluorescent downlighting, undercabinet areas, task lighting fixtures and more. Because electronic ballasts operate at higher frequencies and efficiencies than magnetic ballasts, upgrading to Microstar can reduce energy consumption by 30 percent or more. TVSS offers protection from surges

Siemens' Circuit Breaker and Secondary Surge Arrester and the Siemens Circuit Breaker and Transient Voltage Surge Suppressor (TVSS) provide the first line of defense against all electrical surges at the point of entry. With built-in circuit breakers, they notify the homeowner of loss of surge protection by tripping the circuit using LEDs. Both products offer great levels of protection with an initial clamping level of 360V and 240V respectively. The built-in circuit breaker saves space in the load center, eliminating the need for a separate breaker while still providing circuit protection after the unit has tripped. Fire-rated pathway approved for power and control cables

The EZ-Path cable pathway has been approved as a fire-stopping device for power and control cables penetrating fire-rated floors and walls. Combining fast-acting intumescent fire-stopping technology with a through-wall penetrating device, the system ensures that the integrity of the fire rating (four hours) is maintained. It installs in minutes, and there is nothing more to buy. No coordination of trades is required; cables may be added or changed without disturbing the fire-stopping material. It's a solution for new or retrofit applications. Actual outside dimensions are 3 inches by 3 inches by 10.5 inches. The product is UL classified/FM approved. Specified Technologies Inc.
