Standard Electric Co., Wilmington, Mass., reopened its Wolfers Lighting showroom in Allston, Mass., in October, lifting the veil on a facility it redesigned with the designer in mind. The intent behind the redesign was to create a lighting showroom and design center where it would be easy for lighting and design professionals and more sophisticated homeowners to see and evaluate lighting options. Fixtures are displayed by style and function in demonstration areas and room settings with product information such as finishes, wattages, sizes and prices as part of the display.

"We didn't design it to make a unique space, but to make it easier for designers and architects to bring their customers in here and discuss options," said Bonnie Forbes, manager of Wolfers Lighting. The technical areas and lighting labs host detailed discussions. "It really sets us apart."

The 10,000-sq-ft showroom was designed by C&J Katz Studio, a design firm in South Boston.
