Sea Gull Lighting Announces Lighting Design Award Winners Sep 1, 2005 12:00 PM Sea Gull Lighting Products Inc., Riverside, N.J., announced the winners of the 1st Annual Ambiance Design Competition. The five award winners were selected from numerous entries based upon their innovative, fashion-driven and trend-setting applications using Ambiance lighting systems. “We were extremely impressed with the applications,” said Eric Borden, vice president, Ambiance Lighting Systems. “They all expressed great artistry and innovation. However, some truly stood out from the rest by making lighting integral to their design. We were especially awed by the way the winning entries utilized task, ambient and accent lighting to complete great layered looks and highlight architectural elements.” First Place was awarded to Professional Lighting & Design of Greensboro, N.C., for the firm's use of Ambiance rail, pendant and fluorescent lighting in the redesign of a luxury kitchen in Greensboro. “This was certainly a pleasant surprise and an honor,” said Sid Phillips, owner of the 20-year-old remodeling and construction firm specializing in lighting applications. “We firmly believe that lighting is among the most important design elements. In addition to the beauty provided by the fixtures themselves, lighting offers a wonderful method for accentuating architecture, creating mood and flexibly accommodating the fulfillment of any task or event.” Other competition winners included a second place honor for Michelle Mangan of Michelle Mangan Designs LLC for her redesign of a library in a showcase luxury home based in Denver. Honorable mentions in the Sea Gull Lighting design competition were awarded to Kimball Derrick of The Kitchen Design Studio in Cincinnati; John McNicholas of McNicholas Lighting Restoration, Barnegat, N.J.; and Al Thomas of Seattle Lighting Corp., Seattle. To enter the 2nd Annual Ambiance Design Competition, all eligible members of the architectural, building and design communities are urged to visit www.seagulllighting.com and submit entries by Oct. 31, 2005.
