SLUMPING ECONOMY SLOWS HARD-WIRED SURGE SUPPRESSOR MARKET

After growing at a sustained rate, the North American market for hard-wired power line surge suppressors has begun to slow down. A recent study conducted by the Venture Development Corporation (VDC), Natick, Mass., found that the market has averaged 9.8 percent annual growth over the past two years. Deregulation, grid reliability, and power quality issues have slowed down growth in this market, but the research firm expects it to bounce back once the economy turns around. VDC concluded that the largest markets for the products are industrial, education and telecom.
