Sonepar's Capital Lighting expands in Mid-Atlantic region

By Dale Funk, Contributing Editor

Jul 1, 2001 12:00 PM

Capital Lighting & Supply, Alexandria, Va., has agreed to purchase Del Electric Supply, Gaithersburg, Md. For Capital, a Sonepar company, this represents another step in its expansion in the Mid-Atlantic region, where it has been acquiring companies since 1999.

Capital's acquisition surge began in late 1999 with the acquisition of Lee Electric in the Baltimore area. Later, in March of 2000, Capital acquired Dixie Electric Supply Corp., Richmond, Va., and its six locations. And in January of this year, Capital purchased Daniels Electric Supply, Yorktown, Va.

Ron Delovitch, the former owner of Del Electric, will continue running the company as a branch of Capital. In the last 18 months, Capital has nearly tripled in size through its acquisitions.
