Team Hackman Makes the Cut for Lenox

Apr 1, 2005 12:00 PM

Known as “The Hackman,” Lee Breton made the name for himself by hacking cars in half with a reciprocating saw and hacksaw. A 42-year employee of American Saw & Manufacturing Co., a manufacturer of linear edge power tool accessories, hand tools and band saw blades marketed under the Lenox brand, Breton began wielding his blade in 1981. In addition to cars, Breton has cut in half boxcars, planes and houses. The master cutter showcases Lenox wares for construction professionals at distributor branches, construction sites and trade shows worldwide.

Because of Breton's popularity, Lenox, East Longmeadow, Mass., recruited more “hack men” the beginning of last year. Team Hackman now consists of five master cutters, each responsible for conducting car-cutting events in a particular region of the United States.

This past year, Team Hackman hosted car-cutting events at 21 NexTel Cup Series Events, but car-racing fans weren't the only ones who got to see the team slice cars. Lenox also sent Team Hackman to its major distributors to conduct what it promotes as “Main Events.”

Distributors who buy a specified amount of Lenox products earn the opportunity to host a Main Event at their branches. These Main Events help Lenox demonstrate its saw blades live to potential buyers and current users. The event provides distributors with an opportunity to host something truly unique and offer customers chances to win prizes, including tools and trips.
