The electric spanker of yesterday was quite a bit different than the “electric whopping” many electrical distributors are taking today.

An early issue of Electrical Wholesaling's predecessor, The Jobber's Salesman, included this new-product photo depicting an electric spanker. “Perhaps there are jobber's salesmen with sons who can try this machine out in their homes,” read the item.

Today's electrical salespeople take their “electric spankings” in the form of decreased sales. As survey responses for the June issue's ranking of the top electrical distributors rolled in at press time, it was clear that the downed industrial and commercial markets contributed to the majority of electrical distributors reporting another year of decreased sales. Still, a few electrical distributors are weathering the downed economy well. Stay tuned.
