Ground-fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) are not the sexiest product in the world, but they seem to be gaining ground in the consumer's consciousness, as Eagle Electric Manufacturing Co. found out recently. Today's Homeowner magazine named Eagle's new GFCI one of the "Best New Products 1999" in the magazine's annual showcase of standout products, selected from among thousands of building materials, tools and appliances introduced over the past 12 months. Shown above are Yuliy Rushansky, Eagle Electric mechanical engineer; Paul Spring, editor-in-chief of Today's Homeowner; and Howard Leopold, GFCI team leader and chief engineer, in an award presentation at Eagle's Long Island City, N.Y., headquarters.

The Best New Products, chosen by Today's Homeowner magazine's editorial staff, are selected based on quality, innovation, value, style, ease-of-installation and use, and long-term reliability. Eagle Electric's GFCIs, available for both 15- and 20-amp circuits (GF15, GF20, DGF20), have new safety and convenience features, such as an indicator light that lets you know if the device is wired properly. Other features include a built-in wire stripper on the metal installation strap that can be used for 12- and 14-ga. wire, color-matched test and reset buttons, plus screw terminals for side wiring and slots for back wiring.
