Communications Supply Corp. (CSC), Carol Stream, Ill., has staked out a larger position in the Northeast generally, and New York City in particular, with the purchase of Computel Inc., Springfield, N.J.

Computel's New Jersey location, working together with CSC's existing branch in Stamford, Conn., will give CSC a much stronger presence in an important datacom market, said Steve Riordan, president of CSC. The acquisition gives CSC a total of approximately 50,000 sq ft of warehouse space and approximately 60 employees in the New York City metropolitan area.

In addition to its datacom distribution operations, Computel does value-added, custom cable assemblies, a business that will be further developed under CSC. The three co-owners of Computel will continue to run those operations, which will also retain the Computel name. Bill Dalton will run the shop as branch general manager; Frank Kacerek will work on the transition to CSC and Tom Kacerek will oversee the value-added assembly operations, Riordan said.
