Eck Supply Co., Richmond, Va., extended its presence farther into the south with the purchase of M&M Electric Supply, Inc., Lawrenceville, Ga. The acquisition gives Eck its first location in Georgia. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

M&M, founded in 1979, has annual sales of about $10 million. In addition to its main branch in Lawrenceville, Ga., an Atlanta suburb, it operates a satellite branch in Young Harris, Ga.

The company will continue to operate with the same management under the Eck Supply name. The acquisition is the beginning of a larger growth plan. "The geographic area is very interesting to us, down in Atlanta," Les Burnley, Jr., president of Eck Supply, said. The company intends to keep growing in the Carolinas and Georgia through acquisitions and branch openings, he added.

Eck Supply is the 38th largest electrical distributor in the country, with 12 locations in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and, now, Georgia. It had 215 employees going into the deal and 1996 sales of approximately $90 million. Combined sales for the two companies is projected to exceed $110 million, according to Eck.
