McNaughton-McKay Electric Co., expanded into Flint, Mich., with the purchase of Advance Electric Supply Co., Inc.'s Flint operation. The acquisition gives McNaughton-McKay, Madison Heights, Mich., the Flint area franchise for Rockwell Automation's Allen-Bradley Co., Milwaukee, Wis.

The transaction does not include Advance Electric's branches in Owosso, Lapeer and Fenton, Mich., which became part of Advance Industries, Goodrich, Mich., a company that was formed prior to the sale of Advance Electric and includes companies in property management, leasing and a tool distribution line, said Jim Smock, Jr., president of Advance Industries and former vice president and general manager of Advance Electric.

The three former Advance Electric locations will continue to operate as electrical distribution branches and will sell many of the same products that they were selling before. They will be restricted from selling certain products because of noncompetition agreements with McNaughton-McKay, said Smock Jr., declining to give further details.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. McNaughton-McKay will change Advance Electric's name to McNaughton-McKay by the end of the year, said John MacDonald, vice president of operations for McNaughton-McKay. Greg Chun, who was sales manager for McNaughton-McKay's Ann Arbor, Mich., location, will be branch manager of the Flint operation.
