Westburne Inc., St. Laurent, Quebec, has signed a letter of intent to acquire Ryall Electric Supply Co., Denver. The move would add approximately $70 million in annual electrical sales to the company's bottom line.

The proposed acquisition of Ryall Electric would expand Westburne's presence in Colorado. Westburne already owns Blazer Electric Supply Co., Colorado Springs, Colo., and Colotex Electric Supply, with eight locations in Loveland, Colo.

If approved, Ryall would become part of the Rexel S.A. group of families. Rexel acquired Westburne, one of North America's largest electrical distributors, in September.

Ryall Electric is the 77th largest distributor in the country, with 180 employees and seven locations, according to Electrical Wholesaling's 250 Biggest listing.

Westburne had U.S. electrical sales of $280 million in 1999 and is also a major player in the plumbing, HVAC and automation markets. Paris-based Rexel S.A. had international sales in 1999 of $5.75 billion.
