Expanding its market interests further into lighting controls, Acuity Brands Inc. announced plans to buy Sensor Switch Inc. in a $205 million deal. Wallingford, Conn.-based Sensor Switch makes lighting controls and energy management systems. It generated $37 million in sales in fiscal 2008. Acuity also purchased Lighting Control and Design earlier this year to expand its capabilities into intelligent lighting products and lighting control solutions.

Acuity expects the acquisition to broaden its footprint in both the new construction and building systems markets while also expanding its presence in the renovation and relight market.

Sensor Switch generated sales of more than $37 million for the fiscal year ended Oct. 31. The acquisition is expected to slightly boost Acuity's financial results in the first full year of ownership.
