League Golfs for a Good Cause

Jul 22, 2009 12:00 PM

More than 140 members of the Sacramento Valley Electric League (SVEL) participated in a fundraising tournament at the Morgan Creek Country Club, Roseville, Calif., that benefited the Children's Miracle Network and the Pay It Forward Fund.

Participating as an annual sponsor, Nora Lighting, Commerce, Calif., donated golf shirts and gift bags for all tournament attendees.

Larry Swoboda, a principal at Sierra West Lighting and one of the organizers, said this was the 17th year the SVEL has sponsored the event, which has raised more than $250,000 in charitable funds for the UC Davis Children's Hospital and the Pay It Forward Program.

In addition to scholarships, the Pay It Forward Program provides industry support for associates with exceptional circumstances. The program has provided funds to members with life-threatening illnesses and has also donated gift cards to Iraq War veterans in appreciation of their service.
