USESI to Buy Maurice Electrical Supply

by Dale Funk, Contributing Writer

Oct 10, 2008 12:00 PM

Maurice Electrical Supply Co. Inc. has been acquired by US Electrical Services Inc. (USESI), a division of Consolidated Electrical Distributors Inc. (CED), Westlake Village, Calif. A family-owned independent distributor based in Washington, D.C., since 1922, Maurice Electrical Supply was ranked as the nation's 43rd largest electrical distributor in Electrical Wholesaling magazine's most recent Top 200 listing.

Maurice's locations in Washington, D.C., and Rockville, Md., will become part of USESI's D.C. Metro Region. Maurice and Electrical Wholesalers, a part of USESI, will have eight locations in the company's D.C. Metro Region. The USESI branches are located in Annapolis, Beltsville, Capitol Heights, Gaithersburg, and Rockville, Md., and Warrenton, Va.; the Maurice branches in the area are located in Washington, D.C. and Rockville, Md. Maurice Electrical Supply's branch in Stuart, Fla., will be rolled into the Florida region of USESI.

While exact sales figures weren't available for USESI or Maurice Electrical Supply, it's estimated the acquisition of Maurice will push annual sales for the USESI division of CED to approximately $500 million. CED acquired USESI in late 2007.

Maurice Chairman and CEO Bruce Kogod will continue with the company, as will the entire senior management team. “I'm very excited to join the USESI company and continue to grow our business in the Mid-Atlantic,” said Kogod. “This decision was made because it is the best situation for the entire Maurice family of employees as well as the shareholders. The synergies make this a great opportunity to compete and win more business for years to come. Our future is very bright and I have a big stake in the success of the new company.”

The regional hub-and-spoke model that USESI employs to feed its branch locations fits well with Maurice's Washington, D.C. market strategy, USESI said. According to a press statement released by Maurice Electrical Supply, “The Maurice name will remain and this acquisition will provide growth opportunities for the employees of both companies as we combine forces to build the region's dominant electrical distributor.”
