Blue Egg, a New York-based new-media company devoted to sustainable living, launched a Web site called Green Building Blocks, www.greenbuildingblocks.com, as a resource for building and design professionals committed to sustainable home construction and green remodeling. Through a partnership with Building Green Inc. (BGI), the site will feature more than 1,900 environmentally preferred residential building products reviewed by BGI's experts.

Green Building Blocks is “the only site offering a comprehensive set of resources to help builders grow their practical green skills, showcase their work, discover green products and find green partners,” according to Patti Purcell, co-founder and president of Blue Egg. “Green Building Blocks makes it easy to keep an eye on national trends while also staying on top of the latest regional practices.”

According to a recent survey, 61 percent of architects, engineers and contractors say they need to learn more about green products, and 49 percent say they want details about other builders' green projects in order to better serve their customers. Green Building Blocks makes it easy for them to find exactly what they're looking for. The site includes:

  • Ideas & answers

Here, users can ask experts questions, look up solutions, watch videos, and read case studies that illuminate the entire green building process.

  • Professional directory

Besides serving as a networking resource, the directory gives green building professionals an opportunity to showcase their work and promote their business.

  • Product guide

Building Green's compendium of more than 1,900 items contains in-depth product information, links to the manufacturers and explanations of what makes a product green.

  • Reference tools

The details on certification programs, climate regions, building specialties, and more.

  • Events calendar

A nationwide listing of green building events.
