ESCO acquires O.K. Electric Supply

Facility Solutions Group (FSG), a national energy-service company (ESCO), plans to acquire O.K. Electric Supply Co., Perth Amboy, N.J., a full-line electrical distributor with an innovative package of services for the energy retrofit market on the East Coast.

Through its Energy Solutions division, a fully functioning ESCO, the 87-year-old O.K. Electric Supply serves industrial and commercial customers in the New York and New Jersey metropolitan areas. The company's unique approach in energy retrofits was the subject of Electrical Wholesaling's July 2006 cover story.

Said Bernie Erickson, O.K. Electric's president, “Facility Solutions Group now provides our company with a variety of resources to assist us in continuing to grow in the Northeast. With the growing energy opportunities and a national reach, FSG now gives us the ability to concentrate on delivering quality projects across the United States.”

Facility Solutions Group, founded in 1982, operates a stable of companies that includes American Light, an electrical distributor with a heavy emphasis on lighting, and Design Electric, a full-service electrical contractor. FSG does business in all 50 states, Canada and Puerto Rico.

The acquisition of O.K. Electric establishes the company's 22nd branch location. Bill Graham, CEO of Facility Solutions Group, said, “The acquisition of O.K. Electric Supply gives us an East Coast distribution center, which is great news for our customers. The leadership team is sales driven and very well respected in the marketplace. Both companies are stronger and better positioned to succeed with this move.”

Summit Electric Supply to open two new branches in Florida

Summit Electric Supply, Albuquerque, N.M., will open two new service centers in Florida: one in Orlando and one in Jacksonville. Summit said it has had close ties with the Florida electrical market since it hired Drew Ott, a former Hughes Supply Co. executive, as vice president of sales earlier this year. Ott had been an upper level executive with Hughes Supply in Orlando and joined Summit one week after Home Depot bought Hughes Supply.

Although Summit Electric Supply's new Florida branches will not open for several months, the company has named the branch managers. Harvey Neeley will be the service center leader in Orlando. John Truss, also a Hughes Supply veteran, will lead Summit Electric's Jacksonville service center. Summit is ranked the nation's 23rd largest electrical distributor, according to Electrical Wholesaling's 2006 Top 200 listing. Including the new Florida locations, Summit will have more than 500 associates operating 20 service centers in Arizona, Florida, Louisiana, New Mexico and Texas.
