Robroy Industries, Verona, Pa., has entered into an agreement to buy its long-time rival Perma-Cote Industries. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Perma-Cote, Uniontown, Pa., with a total of 130 employees, manufactures PVC-coated conduit, fittings and accessories at its plant in Mt. Braddock, Pa. All Perma-Cote employees will be laid off after the deal is finalized on July 15 and Perma-Cote's manufacturing plant will close down, said both Gearing and Peter McIlroy II, chairman of the board and chief executive officer for Robroy.

Both brands will operate as separate entities and Perma-Cote will join Robroy's conduit division, which had $36 million in 1998 sales. Robroy will integrate all manufacturing of Perma-Cote products into its facility in Gilmer, Texas, McIlroy said.
