Penn-Union Corp., Edinboro, N.J., is proud of the recognition received for its connector technology and product application by the Solar Vehicle Team at Queen's University.

The team chose Penn-Union's BLUA aluminum compression connectors for installation on their “Mirage” Solar Vehicle and installed them with Penn-Union's TDM-500 mechanical compression tool with telescoping handles. Selection of Penn-Union connectors was based on their efficiency, reliability and light weight — keys to maximum performance for the Mirage.

The Queen's University Solar Vehicle Team, located on the campus of Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, is a multi-disciplinary team of students and faculty who volunteer time and energy to design, build and race a vehicle powered entirely by the sun. Able to reach a top speed of close to 77.7 miles per hour, the team placed fourth out of 35 competing universities in the 2001 American Solar Challenge, racing from Chicago, Ill., to Claremont, Calif. Previously, the team set a Guinness World Record in 2000 for the longest distance traveled by a solar car: 4,377 miles from Halifax to Vancouver.

The Penn-Union products were provided by Techspan Industries Inc. of Canada, key sponsor to the team. Other key sponsors include Panasonic, Michelin, IBM, Dupont, 3M Canada, The Home Depot, Dow Corning and Bell Helicopter.
