Hughes Supply, Orlando, Fla., has chosen Advanced Data Exchange (ADX), Newark, Calif., to handle all EDI translation for its small and mid-sized suppliers. The announcement launches a significant initiative at Hughes Supply to extend its advanced supply chain capabilities to all of its suppliers. ADX provides outsourced EDI and XML translation services for small and mid-sized companies, enabling large enterprises to connect to all of their suppliers regardless of size or technical sophistication.
Hughes distributes more than 240,000 products through more than 430 branches located in 34 states and Mexico. The company's vast supply network is backed by a supplier base of more than 13,000 companies. A large percentage of these suppliers are unable to exchange documents electronically due to the costs and complexities of traditional EDI systems.
Recognizing an opportunity to improve business processes throughout its supply chain, Hughes chose ADX's outsourced services to extend EDI to its supply chain. Working with ADX, Hughes expects to be able to leverage its existing EDI systems to develop electronic trading relationships with its small and mid-sized suppliers to reduce trading errors, achieve greater efficiency, cut costs and increase profitability.
