Richard Buzun has been appointed president and chief executive officer of Siemens Energy & Automation Inc., Atlanta. Buzun succeeds Thomas J. Malott, who will serve as vice chairman on the company's board of directors. Buzun, who has been with Siemens since 1994, was most recently executive vice president and chief operating officer.

David Farr has been named chief executive officer and appointed to the board of directors of Emerson Electric Co., St. Louis. Farr was previously senior executive vice president and chief operating officer. Farr will succeed Charles Knight, the company's chief executive officer for the past 27 years. Knight will continue to be chairman of Emerson Electric. Emerson Electric has also formed a new Office of the Chief Executive, consisting of Farr; President James Berges; Senior Executive Vice President Charles Peters; and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Walter Galvin.

Southwire Co., Carrollton, Ga., has promoted J. Nick Ware to director of wire and cable technology. Ware was previously manager of technology, research and application.

WESCO International Inc., Pittsburgh, has announced the following personnel changes. Steven Van Oss will succeed Steve Burleson, who resigned as chief financial officer to join MyTurn.com Inc., Alameda, Calif., as its chief operating officer/chief financial officer. Van Oss has been appointed vice president and chief financial officer. He joined WESCO in 1997 and has been responsible for acquisition integration programs, e-commerce applications development and the information systems function.

FCI, Manchester, N.H., has named John Burns senior vice president and general manager for FCI's Electrical Business Group. The 20-year FCI veteran most recently served as vice president and general manager.

Charles A. Glew has been hired as technical market consultant, wire and cable, for AlphaGary Corp., Leominster, Mass. Glew is the founder of Cable Components Engineering, a consulting and manufacturing representatives company.

Colonial Electric Supply, King of Prussia, Pa., has announced the following appointments. Bill Keating has been hired as a technical sales representative. Keating was formerly with Billows Electric, Philadelphia. Ted Schalles has been appointed as a sales representative for Colonial's main outside sales force. He was previously Colonial datacom group field sales representative. John Przychodzien has been appointed branch manager for the company's new Wilmington, Del., branch. He was previously branch manager for the company's Downingtown, Pa., branch. Chris Dine has been promoted to branch manager for the Downingtown location. Dine was formerly an inside sales representative in the Downingtown branch.

Pass & Seymour/Legrand, Syracuse, N.Y., has promoted Sue Smith to vice president, data communication products. Smith was previously director of marketing for the company.

John McDermott, former executive director for the Electric Association of Missouri and Kansas, died Thursday, Oct. 5. He was 80 years old. McDermott served as executive director for the Electric Association of Missouri and Kansas from 1952 to 1987. He was also a member of the National Appliance Service Association, the Electrical Equipment Representatives Association, the International League of Electric Associations and the Society of Association Executives. McDermott is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Susan Dawson; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Mindy McDermott; and son, Alan McDermott.

Hugh E. "Buddy" Boyd III, district sales manager for Houston Wire and Cable, died Friday, Oct. 20. He was 63 years old. Boyd worked in the electrical industry for 42 years. He is survived by his wife, Jimmie Lu Boyd; daughters Heidi Evans and Kristin Liggett; son, Scott Boyd; mother, Virginia Boyd; sister, Judy Richard; and grandchildren Michael Boyd DeNicola, Samantha Evans, Brooke Evans, Shannon Boyd, Kevin Boyd and Max Liggett.
