Electrical Marketing newsletter has reported on 40 acquisitions in 2007-2008. Add in the 34 acquisitions that occurred in 2006 and the 26 the publication reported on in 2005 and you have at least 100 acquisitions of distributors of electrical supplies in 2005-2008....

The big news was Rexel's purchase of Hagemeyer and its sale of that company's U.S. operations to Sonepar USA and its integration of Gexpro (formerly GE Supply) into its operations....

The electrical industry's five largest distributors accounted for an estimated 25.9 percent of total industry sales. That percentage is roughly the same as last year. The companies accounted for roughly 43 percent of Top 200 sales in 2007....
