To mark its 25th anniversary, FastPic Systems, Westbrook, Maine, has introduced its fifth generation of the FastPic5 suite of inventory management and control software. FastPic Systems is part of the Kardex AG Group, Zurich, Switzerland.

FastPic5 software is designed to manage manual and automated storage and retrieval systems and can be configured to manage single workstations and multiple work zones. It's built on the Microsoft.Net technology platform, giving organizations the flexibility to keep applications current and quickly respond to changing business demands. The system's Standard Interface Protocol provides an efficient link between host order entry systems and FastPic5 software, as well as many WMS and ERP systems.

The first module of the new software to be released is FastPic5 OP (order processing) software. Features include improved inventory control functions, document management, parts photo library, bar code scanning, graphical bin and shelf configuration, and host integration. FastPic5 OP software uses batch picking and put-away to improve operator picking efficiency.

The new graphic display feature in FastPic5 OP software allows users to easily move or re-slot items to increase storage density within the storage medium. As material is presented to an operator, the shelf, tray, carrier or bin is graphically displayed in 3D within the software. This aids in directing the operator to the exact location of the item, increasing accuracy levels to 99.9 percent.

A material document library allows every part number or family of parts to have an image available to facilitate quick and accurate picking. A document library can be attached to every material or family of materials, providing additional documentation with a click of a button.

“Like previous generations of FastPic software, current users of all FastPic software will be able to migrate to this new generation quickly and easily,” said Doug Card, FastPic Systems director of software.
