Communications Supply Corp. (CSC), Carol Stream, Ill., has expanded into Ohio with the purchase of Calvert Wire & Cable Corp., Brook Park, Ohio.

The acquisition includes the Calvert Wire & Cable and Famous Telephone Supply branch operations. Calvert has approximately 100 employees and is a distributor of communication infrastructure products, including cable, fiber optics, network electronics and industrial wire and cable products.

Steve Riordan, president and CEO of CSC, said the acquisition gives CSC a strong foothold in the Cleveland and Ohio River valley region, where CSC did not yet have a presence.

The addition of Calvert/Famous Telephone Supply to the CSC family brings the number of stocking branch operations across the United States to 29 and gives CSC more than 800 employees, Riordan said.

Brian Coughlin will continue as Calvert's general manager, and all of the company's employees will maintain their current positions and responsibilities. In addition, Coughlin will serve as president of CSC's Industrial Wire and Cable segment. In his new role, he will be charged with creating a national presence for CSC within the industrial wire and cable market.

Communications Supply Corp. distributes low-voltage network infrastructure and industrial wire and cable products. CSC is listed as the 15th largest distributor on Electrical Wholesaling's 2005 list of the Top 200 distributors.
