Capital Lighting & Supply, a subsidiary of Sonepar USA, recently conducted a green makeover at the company's Williamsburg, Va., location. The upgrades to the facility focused on saving energy through various energy efficient lighting installations in the counter and warehouse areas, as well as the office space.

“Upgrading the old lighting with more energy-efficient products was a big focus in our recent renovations,” said Ed Rowe, branch manager.

New fixtures with the latest T-5 lamps and ballasts were installed in the office area, while low bays with 42W CFLs and 32W CFL track fixtures now light up the counter area. In addition, the original single tube T12 strips with magnetic ballasts in the warehouse were replaced with double tube T8 strips, which provide more light with energy-efficient electronic ballasts and lamps. CLS utilized products from Cooper Lighting, Osram Sylvania and Legrand.

“The office and counter areas of the branch realized immediate energy savings with the new lighting,” said Rowe.

As part of the renovation, CLS removed the 8-foot acoustical tile ceiling. The exposed beams and duct work were cleaned and painted flat black, which opened the ceiling height to about 11 feet. In addition, automatic openers were installed on the front doors to make it easier for the customers to carry material out.

The counter area was redesigned with a black counter top and wrap-around diamond plate. There is a “working” Cablofil display which houses the telephone and data cables visible to the customers above the counter. Additionally, slat wall replaced the old paneling, providing more room for organized merchandising.

The office area received brand new flooring, a fresh paint job, and new office furniture which opened up the space and provided a better working environment for all branch employees, the company says.
