Thirty-six wind turbines from GE Energy, Atlanta, have been commissioned and entered service at the Alsleben Wind Project, one of the largest in Germany.

Located approximately 43 miles northwest of Leipzig, the project is adding 54 mW of wind-generated electricity to the country's electricity grid, or enough power to meet the needs of approximately 30,000 German households.

Developed by the EAB Technology Group of Freiberg, the Alsleben project was acquired by GE Energy Financial Services (EFS) in 2005, marking the sixth of seven wind-park purchases the group made in Germany last year. Construction of the project was handled by EAB Projektbau GmbH and completed by the end of March 2006.

Heliotech Betriebssysteme GmbH of Freiberg, a subsidiary of EAB, is supporting GE EFS with selected technical and commercial services. In addition to the supply and installation of the 1.5 mW wind turbines, GE Energy's wind business is providing long-term maintenance services.

GE Energy's 1.5 mW wind turbines are among the most widely used megawatt-class wind turbines in the global energy industry, with more than 4,100 of these machines installed worldwide, totaling more than 6,150 mW of capacity.
