Mayer Electric Supply, Birmingham, AL, announced plants to consolidate or close seven branches across the company’s footprint. The company will consolidate branches in Olean, NY; Meadville, PA; Indiana, PA; and Somerset, PA. Branches that will be closed include Knoxville, TN; Greenville, NC; and New Orleans, LA.
According to the press release, the re-alignment is a result of Mayer Electric Supply’s normal business processes that include a periodic review of current and future performance at each location. “Like all companies, Mayer goes through an annual planning process that includes a review of performance and potential and, despite unique external circumstances, this year is no different,” said Wes Smith, the company’s president in the release. “After a comprehensive review of the markets and the prospects for future growth in these areas, we have concluded we can either service these markets from another nearby location, or our investment would be better redeployed to other areas.”
Mayer associates in the affected locations have been informed, and many will have the opportunity to remain with Mayer in nearby locations. “We will honor those who leave Mayer by assisting them with their transitions and we thank them for their service to our company and customers,” Smith said.
The transitions in each location will be completed by the end of the year.
