The North Central Electrical Manufacturers Club, Inc., donated the proceeds of its annual golf fund-raiser, about $5,000, to a local charity called Feed My Starving Children.

The Electrical Industry Golf Classic is an annual gathering of the Upper Midwest Electrical Industry that's been going on since 1957. Each major contributing sponsor of the Golf Classic provides the name of a charity benefactor. The golf participants then vote on who is to receive the proceeds. Each player is provided with a description of each charity and voting takes place during the day of the event.

Since 1987, the NCEMC has contributed $25,750 to charity from the Golf Classic and a total of $459,890 in scholarships, between its annual golf tournament, holiday and other fundraising events, including Salvation Army Red Kettle Bell volunteering.

Contributing sponsors of the 2011 Golf Classic were 3M Co.; Border States Electric Supply; Collins Unlimited Electrical & Technology Solutions; EESCO/United Electric Supply; Graybar Electric Co.; Viking Electric Supply; and Werner Electric Supply of Minnesota.

The 2011 Golf Classic was especially memorable in part because weather made it a complete washout as far as the golf itself was concerned. Lightning, torrential rain and wind forced the course to cancel use of carts on the course. Nonetheless, the group says the players “networked” for over three hours and the sponsors' gifts were raffled out to those who stayed.
