Day-Brite Capri Omega (DCO), Tupelo, Miss., is engaging its employees in a fundamental commitment to protect the environment through the continuous improvement of its energy performance. An organization-wide energy management approach will help enhance its financial health, increase value and aid in preserving the environment for future generations, the company said.
In 2007, DCO became an Energy Star Partner. The commitment led DCO's executive management team to develop metrics to benchmark its energy consumption, track progress and then set the goal of reducing its energy consumption by 25 percent in five years. As a member of the Energy Star Partners program, DCO can leverage the knowledge from businesses in different industries that have managed successful energy reduction programs.
DCO's sustainability goals include developing green manufacturing processes and leveraging innovations to develop sustainable lighting. The company is also encouraging employees to implement sustainability practices at work and at home by changing any incandescent lights to the more energy-efficient compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), halogen bulbs or LEDs. To launch the initiative, each employee was given a 13W CFL to take home and replace an incandescent lamp.
