At a time when many companies are struggling to get by, Foremost Industrial Technologies (FIT), a Peoria, Ill.-based motor sales and repair shop is growing and stepping into a whole new arena.
FIT last month hosted an open house on a new facility three times the size of the one it replaces. The new shop features new equipment to handle much larger projects than the company was able to handle before. Cranes in the new shop quadruple FIT's lifting capabilities from the previous location, giving FIT the capacity to handle large motors and pumps up to 20,000 lbs.
The site's new ovens and vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI) tank allow it to process large motor repairs, and the expanded space means FIT can now provide analytical services including vibration analysis, motor analysis, field balancing and alignment in addition to their traditional services.
FIT started as Foremost Electric & Transmission in a small shop in Peoria in 1925 and now has 53,000 square feet of warehouse and shop space. FIT has 25 employees right now with intentions of doubling its workforce in the next four years and adding more shifts.
