NC Clean Energy Technology Center Releases 2Q 2015 State of Solar Report

In its latest status report on the U.S. solar industry, the NC Clean Energy Technology Center run by North Carolina State University highlighted the continuing growth of photovoltaic systems installed by homes and businesses and the evolving status the states’ net metering policies that credit owners of PV systems for the excess power they create and add to the grid; and the growing development of community-based solar installations. The report, The 50 States of Solar, had this to say about the installation of residential and commercial PV systems:

“Through the end of 2014, more than 600,000 homes and businesses had installed on-site solar. The residential market grew by more than 50% annually in 2012, 2013, and 2014—a trend that some experts predict will continue for 2015 and 2016. These systems generate approximately one-third of the total U.S. solar electricity production. Although other states have rapidly expanding distributed solar markets, California accounts for approximately half of all residential solar installations.”
